I wonder how they decide which songs are off limits. Personally I think they should stay away from a song like easy wind, but it is a fun song...btw I always assumed that was a cover, but it's actually written by Hunter.

"I wonder how they decide which songs are off limits."
REALLY???

You think The Dead should limit their music and what they play?

Put limits on music? Isn't that contradictory to what the Grateful Dead always stood for?

Maybe The Dead haven't played it, but it's not off limits for Phil and Friends.

Thats a shame. I looked it up on setlist and it seems he just started playing it this past fall....phil and friends began touring in 98...so he waited 10 yrs to play it...ahem

btw I thought we were talking about the dead?

Hey, what's that song The Dead play right inbetween Space and Slipknot!

Ahem... What was that I was saying about 'talking out your ass?'

And it just keeps getting worse.
What's that inbetween Space and Tons of Steel?

This might be the second time in my life ive ever been wrong. It's a strange feeling. Humility maybe?

I apologize average joe, next time I make a statement like that Ill make sure to do my homework and check it twice.

Regardless, it doesn't change my opinion that "the dead" should stay away from certain songs like so many roads, and a pigpen staple like easy wind.

Whats next two souls in communion? Blow Away? Might as well as this point I guess.

You've humbled me and disappointed me at the same time joe, thanks.

Hey, I'm just yanking your chain a little.
For what it's worth, while I was looking at setlists, I found that The Dead also played Days Between, Stella Blue, Birdsong, and Comes a Time among other singularly Jerry tunes.

Peace.

Dude, you are exactly right. I was in a contrary mood yesterday and I was going to take the opposite side of whatever anybody wrote.
And while I was talking out my ass, I wasn't allowing you your opinion. And for that I apologize.

Everybody here should be afforded equal rights to talk out their own ass. Sometimes I need to remember that.

Peace.

No, just as in - some songs just don't sound right without Jerry. I can understand why one might want the Dead not to play certain songs, out of respect for their performances in the past.

Big RR Blues, like Jack Straw from the previous show, starts out weakly but it gets going later in the tune. It's passable, w/ nice slide work. Sounds sweet - decent licks. Weir-d ending? I see it both ways. It disappoints on a Jerry musical level, but it's fun to see everyone making the scene and enjoying some good music. Finally some pics are floating around. I thought this source sounded better of the first upped.

I was there.

Highlights: Cassisdy, Pride Of Cucamonga, Easy Wind, Alabama and Big RR for first set. Acoustic stuff was nice, esp. Peggy-O. Glory was meh. Hard Rain kinda went too long. The Dark Star sandwich was the meat of the show. Transitions around King Solomon's were great. Come Together came off nicely. Ripple also pretty sweet. For now, I am avoiding the Tipper Gore thing.

Actually, it is well known that Tipper was a drummer in a rock band (that did GD covers) when she was in High School. Although the whole thing is still weird...
